Dr. Laurence Desjardins is an ophthalmologist specializing in ophthalmic oncology, for the treatment of intraocular cancers such as uveal melanoma and retinoblastoma, as well as tumors located on the ocular surface, eyelids, and eye socket.
At Institut Curie, she was Head of the Department of Ocular Oncology from November 1991 to January 2016, and Head of the Department of Surgery from November 2003 to December 2005.
Dr. Desjardins was President of the Ophthalmic Oncology Group (OOG) from November 2003 to November 2008, and is a member of the International Society of Ocular Oncology (ISOO), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER), the French Society of Ophthalmology, the French Society of Photocoagulation, and the French Society of Pediatric Oncology (SFOP).
She was Treasurer of the French Society of Ophthalmology (SFO) from May 2007 to May 2014, President of the Institut Curie Medical Board (January 2007), EVER Chair of Pathology Oncology 2010–2015, and EVER Vice President 2016.
Since January 2016 she has been Deputy Director of Institut Curie’s Paris site.
