A randomized comparative prospective multicenter study of the efficacy of a systematic referral to palliative care of patients who need for palliative care during an unscheduled visit in comprehensive anticancer centers.

Trial description

The primary objective will be to compare, in the context of daily emergency units of Regional Comprehensive Cancer Centers, the efficacy (in terms of decrease of aggressiveness of care in the nearly end of life) of a systematic referral to a palliative care team of patients with cancer who need for palliative care.;The primary endpoint will be the proportion of patients considered as a failure with regard to the aggressiveness of care near the end of life. Patients who meet at least one of the following criteria will be considered as a failure:;À More than 1 hospitalization in the last 30 days of life;;À More than 1 visit in an emergency unit in the last 30 days of life;;À More than 14 days in hospital in the last 30 days of life;;À Hospitalization in a resuscitation unit in the last 30 days of life;;À Treatment with chemotherapy in the last 14 days of life;;À New chemotherapy regimen starting in the last 30 days of life;;À Patients dying in an acute care setting.
