Laura, Sasha, Jacques, Yanis, Diana, Christina, Sébastien, Catherine... Whether patients, doctors, scientists, students, or donors, each one is helping build a world without incurable cancers. Discover their stories and the key milestones of 2024 in the digital edition of Institut Curie’s Annual Report.
Everyone -whether patient, physician, scientist, student, or donor- plays a part in building a world without incurable cancers.
Laure benefited from an algorithm developed by Dr. Sarah Watson, an oncologist and researcher at Institut Curie, which enabled the accurate identification of her cancer’s origin and the optimal treatment.
Sacha, who is living with breast cancer, was enrolled in the EMBER-3 clinical trial, led by Prof. François-Clément Bidard, medical oncologist and head of the Circulating Tumor Biomarkers translational research team at Institut Curie.
Jacques, after a urology consultation, needed to undergo a prostate biopsy—a typically invasive and uncomfortable procedure. He also participated in the HOPE clinical trial, led by Dr. Antonin Morillon, director of the Dynamics of Genetic Information: Fundamental Bases and Cancer (DIG-Cancer) research unit (CNRS UMR 3244 / Sorbonne University). The trial aims to replace biopsies with a simple urine test for cancer screening.
Yanis, a biology master’s student, was inspired to pursue oncology research after attending a Fête de la Science visit at Institut Curie during high school.
Catherine, who witnessed close family members battle cancer at a young age, has been a loyal donor to Institut Curie for over 40 years.
Through these stories and the many breakthroughs of 2024, Institut Curie is moving closer each day to a world without incurable cancers.
