Romain-Pacome Desmaris, pharmacist
Institut Curie Pharmacy Department manages, in particular, the stocks of medicines and sterile medical devices, as well as the preparation of drug treatments.
The internal use pharmacy (PUI) meets the pharmaceutical needs of people cared for within the hospital complex. It is a key player in the quality and safety of the drug circuit and sterile medical devices within the hospital. Its activities are regulated and subject to authorization from the competent authorities in this field. It is constituted by the pharmacy of Saint-Cloud, the pharmacy of Paris, and the radiopharmacy (dual sites).
Missions of the Pharmacy Department
- Supply all medicines and medical devices.
- Control computerized prescriptions based on the computerized patient file.
- Individual and daily dispensation of inpatient medications and of certain medications to the patient after hospitalization.
- Centralized preparation of chemotherapies and quality controls of the finished preparation, which allow its subsequent release by a pharmacist. As of late, more and more often these preparations have been automated and handled by robots.
- Management of medical fluids (medical gases such as oxygen, nitrous oxide, etc.)
- Management of clinical trials of medicines and in particular Innovative Therapy Medicines (ITM).
- Management of Radiopharmaceuticals (MRP) focused on the MRP circuit (pharmaceutical analysis of prescriptions, orders, receptions, preparations, quality controls of MRP intended for Nuclear Medicine, as well as radioactive waste management).
- Involvement in the quality management of medication and medication management in the hospital
- Participation in the various drug committees (CLIN, CLAN, CLUD, Medicine Committee). The mission of the Medicine Committee is to optimize and secure the use of medicines: prescription conditions, choice and referencing, dispensing, management of the risk of error in the drug circuit (from delivery to administration). It regularly updates the list of all prescribed medications by integrating benefit/risk and benefit/ cost analysis data.
- Research activities and links with the University of Pharmacy to boost research and teaching projects (training of pharmacy externs and residents). The radiopharmacy also conducts research activity using a medical cyclotron located on the Saint-Cloud site. This equipment makes it possible to manufacture radioactive isotopes with a very short lifetime. They are used to "mark" molecules and/or drugs at a quality level allowing injection into humans in the context of clinical trials, which can then be "tracked" in the body.
- Involvement in scientific societies (GERPAC, SFPO, etc.) and working groups (Unicancer, etc.)
