Prof. Steven Le Gouill, Director of Institut Curie Hospital Group

Prof. Steven Le Gouill took up his duties as director of the Hospital Group of Institut Curie on September1, 2021. He was appointed by the Supervisory Board for a period of 5 years.

Biography of Prof. Steven Le Gouill

Professor of Hematology (PU-PH), Steven Le Gouill has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, research, teaching and management. 

He holds a doctorate in medicine with a specialization in hematology from the University of Medicine of Nantes and a doctorate with a specialization in blood cell biology from the University of Paris Cité (formerly Paris-Descartes University). Prof. Le Gouill was a postdoctoral fellow at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA). He was appointed university professor in 2010. He practiced at the University of Medicine of Nantes. Since 2022, he has been a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin. 

At the hospital level, he worked at the Nantes University Hospital from 1996 to 2021 where he assumed many responsibilities including that of head of the early phase clinical investigation unit and the CLIP2 program (2013-2021), head of the hematology department (2018-202), then head of the university hospital center comprising the hematology, dermatology, nephrology, gastroenterology, urology and visceral surgery services (2021). From 2016 to 2021, he was a member of the board of directors of the Nantes University Hospital and medical director of the Clinical Research and Investigation Department (DRCI) from 2013 to 2017. 

Prof. Steven Le Gouill is an international expert in the field of lymphomas, with a particular focus on mantle cell lymphoma, a rare type of lymphoma. He has published as a first author in peer-reviewed reference journals, in particular in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the British Journal of Medicineand Blood. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the LYSA (Lymphoma Study Association), as well as a member of its executive board. He is a member of many academic societies, including the French Society of Hematology (SFH), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO). Prof. Le Gouill was also the national coordinator of the French National CAR-T Register (DESCAR-T). 

Prof. Steven Le Gouill has received numerous awards in his field of expertise, including the prize of the French Society of Hematology.
