Cervical cancer research

As a referral center in the management of women's cancers, Institut Curie is actively involved in research aimed at fighting cervical cancer, participating, in particular, in translational research protocols, which are at the edge of basic research, to understand the mechanisms at the origin of cancer, and in clinical research aimed at evaluating the effectiveness and tolerance of treatments in patients.

Institut Curie works in particular on:

  • Molecular characterization of the tumors with high-throughput technologies to better understand their mechanisms. Institut Curie platform is also at the forefront in terms of characterization;
  • Implementation of new surgical strategies (such as the sentinel node), which limit the risk of complications.
  • Liquid biopsy follow-up (follow-up of the human papillomavirus) using a blood test during and after the treatments;
  • Search for new personalized therapies;
  • Development of therapeutic vaccine strategies that target the human papillomavirus and strengthen the immune system;
  • New approaches, which consist of combining treatments against cervical cancer, including immunotherapy, to improve their effectiveness.
