The HR policy of Institut Curie

The HR policy of Institut Curie

Treating, researching and transmitting knowledge to battle cancer. These have been the  missions of Institut Curie since its founding. The first French cancer center, Institut Curie is a world-renowned foundation, recognized for its public good since 1921. People are at the heart of our concerns and this also applies to the professional environment of our employees.

A unique history, an environment of excellence: welcome to Institut Curie

The pioneering spirit of Marie Curie, an essential figure of science, continues to inspire and guide each action of Institut Curie, including its internal functioning. As such, the values of humanity, openness, innovation, solidarity and kindness, inherited from Marie Curie, constitute the base of the institute’s identity in carrying out its daily mission: to fight cancer.

This legacy and its values apply to the talent that joins the institute. We make sure they are perpetuated in the best possible conditions.

“I don’t believe that the spirit of adventure is at risk of disappearing in our world. If I see something vital around me, it is precisely this spirit of adventure, which seems to me ineradicable and allied with curiosity.”

- Marie Curie

A resolutely human work environment

Across its sites, Institut Curie offers a quality work environment where each employee can be fulfilled and take part in the fight against cancer.

The quality of life at work: more than a right, an obligation

The quality of work life (QWL) and workplace conditions constitutes of the pillar of the  “Curie 2030 - Hopes against cancer” strategic plan.

By 2030, this ambitious plan will enable the continued improvement of our practices in terms of QWL and to harmonize them across the institute. To do so, we commit to:

  • Allowing for a better reconciliation between private and professional life. Thanks to remote work already implemented for certain roles, parental support, daycare, and imagining new services for tomorrow, like expanding the housing complex at Institut Curie
  • Strengthening our professional risk prevention policy by creating a real culture of prevention, through awareness and detection with all our actors (workplace psychologists and doctors, HSE specialists, social workers…)
  • Developing the employee experience by maintaining a dialogue with employees. Notably through social surveys and engagement, and also by designing new spaces and more collaborative communication tools
  • Continuing to invest in infrastructure. Whether by renovating or expanding like with the Saint-Cloud extension, or by creating spaces for work and relaxation dedicated to professionals, or by investing in new cutting-edge technologies
  • Recognizing skills with an attractive remuneration policy from hiring throughout the professional journey
  • Encouraging employee engagement, especially during national moments of mobilization against cancer: Pink October, Une Jonquille Contre le Cancer campaign, etc.

HR Excellence in Research

Institut Curie is recognized for its HR policy. As such, since 2018, the Research Center has been designated for “HR Excellence in Research ”. This label, awarded by the European Commision, rewards scientific establishments committed to the European HR strategy for researchers (HRS4R).

Get support throughout your career

We are committed to supporting our employees throughout their professional careers, across different axes:

  • The development of employee competencies. At Institut Curie, the transmission of knowledge also applies to employees. There are opportunities like conferences, seminars, symposiums, access to qualifying training and university degrees. Numerous learning and training options are put in place and made possible, thanks to things like university partnerships. In parallel, guidance for internal promotions is also available.
  • The training of managers. The best ambassadors of the policy and values of the institute, spokespeople for its leadership in terms of realities and expectations, managers are key players. That’s why a particular attention is given to their support, notably with the creation of a dedicated community and the definition of a managerial training path.
  • The integration and onboarding of new talent. To support the integration of new talent, a mentorship program is implemented, and orientation days are organized, including a visit to the Curie museum as a highlight.
