On Monday, April 22, 2024, Dr. Renata Basto, head of the Biology of Centrosomes and Genetic Instability team (CNRS UMR144 / Sorbonne Université), was awarded funding of nearly €2.4 million as part of the "Chair of Excellence in Biology/Health" call for proposals launched by the National Research Agency (ANR). With this funding, she will endeavor to elucidate the mechanisms of cell growth and their links to cancer.

Actualité - Renata Basto - Chaire d'excellence

The "Chair of Excellence in Biology/Health" call for proposals was launched in May 2023 by the ANR as part of the Healthcare innovation 2030 plan, aimed at enhancing innovation in the field of biology/health in France.

Dr. Renata Basto, head of the Biology of Centrosomes and Genetic Instability team (CNRS UMR144 / Sorbonne Université), distinguished herself among the 22 initial awardees announced on Monday, April 22, 2024, receiving funding of nearly €2.4 million to conduct her research over a period of 5 years. Her research project, named ScalingRules, delves into the reasons why some cells become polyploid, meaning they have multiple complete sets of chromosomes, and how this may be linked to issues such as cancer. Through ScalingRules, Renata Basto aims to understand the rules governing this cell growth, using imaging and molecular analysis techniques to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and prevent genetic abnormalities.
