BioHub – Institut Curie

The BioHub of Institut Curie is a transversal structure dedicated to technological innovation in biology and medicine, embedded at the core of fundamental and translational cancer research. It brings together state‑of‑the‑art technology platforms, recognized scientific expertise, and project coordination capabilities to support ambitious research projects, from proof of concept to downstream exploitation of results. As an interface between research teams, technology platforms, clinicians, and academic or industrial partners, the BioHub provides a highly integrated environment fostering innovation with strong scientific and clinical impact. The BioHub operates across all three Institut Curie sites — Paris, Orsay and Saint‑Cloud — ensuring close interaction with research laboratories, clinical departments and technological infrastructures.
Our missions
The BioHub is committed to:
- Supporting scientific excellence by providing access to cutting‑edge technologies and expert scientific support
- Accompanying innovative research projects at all stages, from design to validation
- Promoting cross‑disciplinary and cross‑platform approaches
- Accelerating the translation of research outputs toward diagnostic, prognostic or therapeutic applications
- Structuring, sustaining and promoting emerging technologies and translational research pathways within Institut Curie
An integrated technological offer
The BioHub relies on a portfolio of structured technology platforms covering in particular:
- Access to samples
- Cellular and molecular biology,
- Omics technologies,
- Advanced imaging and analysis,
- Innovative biological models,
- Emerging technologies with high translational potential.
Key platforms include:
- the Biological Resource Center
- the Cytometry Platform,
- the Extracellular Vesicles Platform,
- the Experimental Pathology Platform.
The Flow Cytometry Platform operates under a recognized quality framework, with ISO 9001 / NF X50‑900 certification, and is labelled by IBiSA, attesting to its technological excellence, organizational quality and national visibility as a core biological infrastructure.
All platforms provide technological services, tailored scientific support, and co‑development of projects in close interaction with users.
Focus on emerging technologies and translational research
The BioHub plays a key role in the identification, development and structuring of innovative technologies, particularly those requiring increased technological maturity, consolidated organization or enhanced national and international visibility.
It also relies on a Translational Research Project Coordination Team, supporting researchers in:
- scientific and technological project structuring,
- integration of fundamental, preclinical and clinical research,
- optimization of interfaces with technology platforms,
- preparation and coordination of collaborative research projects.
Several BioHub platforms and activities are involved in national and international networks and consortia, actively contributing to the development of standards, best practices and shared strategic approaches.
Project support
The BioHub supports research projects through an integrated and collaborative approach, including:
- scientific and technological assessment,
- guidance toward relevant platforms and expertise,
- experimental design support,
- access to technologies and know‑how,
- structuring and coordination of translational research projects,
- contribution to valorization and technology transfer.
This support is available to Institut Curie teams as well as to academic and industrial partners, according to applicable institutional frameworks.

Ethical and regulatory framework
All activities supported by the BioHub of Institut Curie are conducted in full compliance with fundamental ethical principles and with national and European regulations applicable to biomedical research.
When projects involve the use of human biological samples and/or associated data, they are carried out within a strictly defined and pre‑approved regulatory framework. Human samples used in BioHub‑supported projects are provided by the Institut Curie Biological Resource Center (BRC), a dedicated structure ensuring compliant collection, storage, traceability and distribution of biological materials.
The Institut Curie BRC is certified according to ISO 20387 (Biobanking), guaranteeing quality‑controlled processes, robust sample traceability and reliability of associated data.
Samples have been collected with appropriate information of donors and in accordance with applicable consent or non‑opposition procedures. Projects rely on research protocols that have already received the required authorizations, including, when applicable, ethical approvals (CPP) and regulatory declarations or authorizations (CNIL), depending on the nature of the biomedical activities.
Access to human samples and associated data is already authorized and fully covered from a regulatory perspective prior to the implementation of funded research activities.
Associated data are processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and French regulations governing health data, ensuring confidentiality, security and restricted access.
As part of its project support mission, the BioHub ensures ongoing ethical and regulatory compliance, in close coordination with the BRC and Institut Curie institutional support services.
Training and knowledge dissemination
The BioHub actively contributes to research‑based training and knowledge sharing through:
- technological training sessions and workshops,
- scientific seminars,
- participation in national and international scientific events.
Governance and organization
The BioHub is supported by Institut Curie and operates under a scientific and technological governance framework ensuring strategic coherence, technological excellence and alignment with the institute’s research priorities.
