Institut Curie Research Center

Institut Curie is a major player in cancer research and treatment. It comprises a hospital and a research center with over 1000 staff members and strong international representation.

The mission of the Institut Curie Research Center is to develop basic research and to use the knowledge produced to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics of cancers as part of the continuum between basic research and innovation serving the patient.

The Genetics and Developmental Biology Unit (BDD) (https://institut-curie.org/unit/umr3215-u934) at Institut Curie is a multidisciplinary department that, among other topics, studies tissue dynamics from the cellular to the organ scale during development. Research teams use fluorescence optical microscopy to visualize biological processes in real time in various organoids and animal models (Drosophila, zebrafish, and mouse). We are looking for an enthusiastic, curious, and service-oriented Image Analysis Engineer (Bioimage Analyst).

You will work within the Cell and Tissue Imaging Platform (PICT) located in the BDD unit and collaborate with scientists from the unit and partner teams. Projects will span a wide range of activities, from implementing image analysis workflows to developing custom scripts, macros, or plugins, as well as in-depth collaborations involving full end-to-end analysis of research projects. You will join an imaging team of four people and report to the platform manager.

-        Act as the primary contact for research teams regarding image analysis needs and support them in defining appropriate strategies

-        Design, develop, and deploy custom analysis tools for projects requiring specific developments

-        Independently manage image analysis projects, from needs assessment to validation, documentation, and transfer of developed solutions

-        Collaborate with scientists to identify, extract, and interpret relevant biological parameters from multidimensional imaging data

-        Contribute to the writing and preparation of scientific publications with research teams

-        Develop image analysis solutions with broader applicability beyond individual user projects

-        Promote sharing, dissemination, and mutualization of tools and analysis workflows within Institut Curie

-        Design and deliver training in image analysis for PhD students, postdocs, and other trainees

-        Keeping up with technological developments and contribute to local, national and international networks in the field

Training and experience required

Candidates must hold an engineering degree, Master’s degree, or PhD in (bio)informatics, (bio)physics, applied mathematics, or a related field, with at least 3 years of professional experience in bioimage analysis in a research or research support environment.

Skills required

-        Experience in image processing, data visualization, and software development (e.g.: Fiji/ImageJ, Napari, Imaris, Ilastik,)

-        Good knowledge of segmentation algorithms, object tracking, and pattern recognition.

-        Programming skills (e.g.: Python, MATLAB, Java, C/C++, Bash)

-        Ability to use and optimize deep learning approaches

-        Strong interest in collaborative work and supporting diverse scientific projects

-        Ability to work in a team while managing multiple projects with a high level of technical autonomy
