The Curie Institute Research Center

The Institut Curie is a major player in the research and fight against cancer. It consists of a hospital and a Research Center of more than 1000 employees with a strong international representativeness.

The objective of the Curie Institute Research Center is to develop basic research and to use the knowledge produced to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics of cancers as part of the continuum between basic research and innovation serving the patient.

Description of position

Laboratory

The open position is in the junior team of Marianne Burbage “Tolerance and anti-tumour immunity” in the “Immunity and Cancer” Inserm unit U932 https://institut-curie.org/team/burbage. This unit brings together 11 independent teams who conduct research in fundamental and applied immunology, in a collaborative and international environment.

Missions

Marianne Burbage's team is studying the contributions of the “dark” or “silent” genome to the transcriptome in homeostasis and cancer and is developing approaches to interfere with the splicing machinery in place in tumor cells. She is particularly interested in the processes governing the inclusion of transposable elements in tumor-specific transcripts. Some of these constitute very interesting neoantigens to target in the context of immunotherapy or anti-cancer vaccination protocols.

The selected candidate will work on a project in line with recent developments and aimed at strengthening the interface between immunology, bioinformatics and gene expression regulation in a physiologic and tumor context.

The analyses of genomic and transcriptomic datasets (public and internal to Curie, including RNA-seq, ChIP-Seq and CLIP-seq) will be carried out using dedicated pipelines capable of detecting repetitive elements and alternative splice sites, combining the use of a high-performance computing cluster, R and Python.

The selected candidate will benefit from strong interactions with the teams in the Inserm unit U932 “Immunity and cancer” and with the bioinformatics hub of Institut Curie.
