Cancer du sein : Une nouvelle trithérapie dans les cancers du sein métastatiques agressifs Institut Curie

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women - it accounts for 33% of new cancer cases every year. It affects more than 60,000 women a year in France, but its survival rate is 87% at the five-year mark. It should be noted that less than 1% of breast cancers occur in men. Cancer cells may be contained within the lobules (the group of glands that produce milk) or ducts of the breast (which carry milk), or they may invade nearby tissues, such as lymph nodes under the armpit. In the first case, we are talking about carcinoma in situ and in the second - of invasive carcinoma. Cancer cells can then pass into the blood and cause metastases.

Another academic trial conducted by Institut Curie will be presented at ASCO: the TUC-TOC Phase 2 study to evaluate a new combination therapy in approximately 60 patients with HER2+ metastatic breast cancer. This approach combines targeted therapy, an anti-HER2 antibody and oral chemotherapy in order to extend the possibilities of patient management at an advanced stage of the disease. Coordinated by Dr. Diana Bello Roufai and Dr. Florence Lerebours,, medical oncologists at Institut Curie, TUC-TOC offers an alternative to patients in advanced situations, when standard third-line treatments are no longer effective.

"In these advanced situations, it is crucial to expand the range of treatments and to be able to develop effective treatment options that are well tolerated, easily administered and accessible for patients ", emphasizes Dr. Diana Bello Roufai.
