- Creation of the Institute of Urological Oncology: Institut Curie and Institut Montsouris Join Forces to Improve Patients’ Course of Care

The Curie-Montsouris Institute of Urological Oncology at a glance
An integrated approach serving patients
- The expertise of Institut Curie in oncology, radiotherapy, diagnostic and interventional radiology, diagnostic nuclear medicine, and targeted internal radiotherapy (TIR), digital pathology, and oncogenetics, combined with that of Institut Montsouris in urology, diagnostic and interventional radiology, and surgery.
- Access to molecular biology, pharmacology, health care processes dedicated to the management of side effects, supportive care, and the management of brain and bone metastases.
- Targeted pathways with common benchmarks and shared clinical practice guidelines.
- Enhanced access to therapeutic innovations and clinical trials.
An ambitious institute in Ile-de-France for
- Strengthening specialized care in urological oncology
- Structuring a regional reference sector
- Improving patient care and treatment journeys
Since the takeover of Institut Montsouris by Institut Curie and Hopital Foch in 2025, medical collaborations between the institutions have continued to strengthen. After the launch of the Curie-Montsouris Thoracic Institute in 2017, this momentum takes a new step today with the creation of the Curie-Montsouris Urological Oncology Institute, a joint program dedicated to prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular malignancies. It will extend into 2027 with the launch of the Head and Neck Oncology Institute.
Officially presented at the launch event on November 5, 2026, the Institute of Urological Oncology is based on a shared organization of care and research, combining the teams from both institutions. It will help strengthen the specialized urological oncology care offering in the Paris region.
Professor Gilles Créhange, Head of the Radiotherapy Oncology Department at Institut Curie, Dr. Mostefa Bennamoun, medical oncologist at Institut Curie, and Professor Xavier Cathelineau, Head of the Department of Urology at Institut Montsouris, are jointly leading this new structure.
Three ambitions to transform the care of urological malignancies
Expertise
With the largest radiotherapy unit in France and one of the most comprehensive in Europe, Institut Curie offers its recognized expertise in radiotherapy, particularly stereotactic radiotherapy for prostate and kidney malignancies, as well as in prostate curietherapy. Collaboration in radiotherapy between Institut Curie and Institut Montsouris has existed since 2002, particularly in curietherapy. In 2024, 800 prostate malignancies were treated with radiotherapy, including more than 300 from Institut Montsouris.
A leading expert center in the care of prostate malignancy and urological malignancies in general, Institut Montsouris, a pioneer in robotic surgery and focal therapy, has developed internationally recognized excellence, ensuring a comprehensive range of patient care (minimally invasive surgery, surgical robotics, and hormone therapy).
A reference center in complete digital genitourinary pathology, Institut Curie is a pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence to refine diagnosis and inform therapeutic decisions. It participates as a subject matter expert in the national CARARE multidisciplinary consultation meetings for kidney malignancy and AVENTUR for urinary tract malignancies.
Management
The Institute of Urological Oncology structures patient pathways targeted according to malignancies and clinical situations, relying on common medical guidelines, and shared multidisciplinary consultation meetings.
The organization is based on coordinated patient care with common practices replacing the previously separate pathways between the two institutions in order to streamline referrals, and access to specialized and innovative care. Advanced clinics in medical oncology and radiotherapy are offered on-site at Institut Montsouris by experts from Institut Curie.
These pathways involve all of the technical scan platforms at Institut Curie and Institut Montsouris, including diagnostic scan services (radiology and nuclear medicine), interventional scans, oncology interventional radiology (RIO), and targeted internal radiotherapy (RIV), which offer minimally invasive alternatives for anatomopathological diagnosis, targeted percutaneous or isotope treatments, and supportive care.
Innovation
The Institute of Urological Oncology strengthens patient access to therapeutic innovations through a coordinated offering of clinical trials led by Institut Curie and Institut Montsouris (database partition, cohorts, opening of joint clinical trials, etc.).
Institut Curie and Institut Montsouris already have significant active experience in urological malignancies, particularly prostate malignancy, with 29 active clinical trials and 7 additional studies in recruitment. Among the upcoming developments are several tests investigating hormone-refractory prostate malignancies, as well as assessments of adaptive radiotherapy strategies.
