- Lung cancer: a remote monitoring system under development (MOOVCARE®)
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in men (33,438 new cases in 2023), after prostate cancer, and the third in women (19,339 new cases in 2023), after breast and colorectal cancer. It is also the leading cause of cancer mortality in men, and the second leading cause of cancer mortality in women after breast cancer. It occurs on average at the age of 68.
At a time when many remote monitoring devices are being implemented, what are the real impacts of these devices in oncology? How can they modify the care paths?
In this regard, the European society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) has published recommendations. In this context, the prospective REAL-MOOV-LUNG study promoted by Institut Curie and conducted between 2021 and 2024, was intended to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of remote clinical monitoring of symptoms reported by patients with lung cancer using electronic questionnaires.
MOOVCARE® is a digital therapy that uses a simple weekly questionnaire to detect a relapse or a complication during the follow-up of patients with lung cancer. "In this REAL-MOOV-LUNG study, the results show a modest impact on the clinical management of patients, given the frequent and planned consultations at the hospital ", explains Professor Nicolas Girard, Director of the Department of Medical Oncology at Institut Curie. "Nevertheless, patients are reassured by these types of devices and these remote monitoring strategies are interesting and the exploration of these approaches must continue".
