Lung cancer in a few key points
- The leading cause of cancer death in France.
- Smoking is the primary risk factor.
- More than one in every two lung cancer cases is diagnosed when metastases are already present.
- Any unexplained clinical sign, particularly in a smoker or former smoker, will be suggestive of lung cancer, and an exam will be performed as soon as possible.
These cancers can be treated by the entire arsenal of cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted biotherapies and immunotherapy. Each of these strategies is being constantly updated, to achieve greater effectiveness with fewer side effects.
Personalized medicine is now the preferred approach for advanced, metastatic lung cancer.
