What are eye tumors?

There are many forms of cancer in the eye area, affecting the eyelids, lacrimal glands, conjunctiva (the surface of the eye and inside the eyelids), orbit or eye itself. The most common is uveal melanoma, with around 500 to 600[1] new cases per year in France.

Institut Curie expertise

Most of these tumors are rare, but serious because of the risk of vision loss or metastasis. They therefore require early, multidisciplinary treatment in a specialized center such as Institut Curie. This optimizes the chances of recovery.

Institut Curie coordinates the Mélachonat network, which brings together French experts in the management of uveal melanoma. With the support of seven regional centers in Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Lille, Lyon, Nice, Rennes and Strasbourg, the network is building up a national database, establishing treatment guidelines and standardizing care across the country, with consultations, patient follow-up and weekly multidisciplinary consultation meetings (RCP).
