Engineer – Production and Characterization of Recombinant Proteins (F/M)
- Research Center
The Curie Institute Research Center
The “Institut Curie” is a major player in the research and fight against cancer. It consists of a hospital and a Research Center of more than 1000 employees with a strong international representativeness.
The objective of the Curie Institute Research Center is to develop basic research and to use the knowledge produced to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics of cancers as part of the continuum between basic research and innovation serving the patient.
Laboratory:
The CNRS UMR144 "CELL BIOLOGY AND CANCER", investigates cell compartment biogenesis and molecular mechanisms governing both normal cellular functions and pathologies. Within this context, the "INTRACELLULAR TRAFFICKING: ENGINEERING AND MECHANISMS" team studies intra-cellular trafficking in mammalian cells and contributes to the development of biotechnological tools in cell biology (https://institut-curie.org/team/perez).
Position Overview:
We are seeking an Engineer with a background in biochemistry and molecular biology to contribute to ongoing scientific projects. These projects are focused on the biochemical and structural characterization of medically important proteins, including human protein fragments, single domain antibodies, artificially designed proteins, growth factors, and more. The role will involve the production of recombinant proteins and protein complexes using established protocols, as well as the development of new methodologies. Additionally, responsibilities include plasmid, cell and protein inventory management, media and reagent preparation, lab documentation, troubleshooting, and adaptation to the collaborative laboratory environment. There are opportunities for cross-training in complementary techniques if required for specific projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Amplification, purification, and characterization of plasmid DNA.
- Molecular (sub)-cloning, ideally with independent construct design.
- Expression and purification of recombinant proteins at analytical and preparative scales.
- Preparation of samples for in vitro protein binding assays.
- Detailed record-keeping and report generation for all procedures and results.
- Summarization and presentation of data at internal meetings.
- Contribute to preparation and maintaining of laboratory stocks.
Candidate profile
Training and Experience:
• At least a bachelor in biological sciences, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related discipline
• Prior experience in bacteria culture, recombinant protein production and purification (IMAC, affinity chromatography, gel filtration, etc.), protein quantification by spectrophotometry, SDS-PAGE
• Experience in molecular cloning
• Ability to work with mammalian cells would be a plus
• Basic calculations: preparation of solutions and buffers, weight and molar concentrations
• Usage of MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), DNA/protein sequence analysis tools
Training can be provided for some missing experiences
Skills and Abilities:
• Communication in French and English, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work collaboratively on multiple projects maintaining clear communication of progress and results with team members
• Careful adherence to established experimental protocols.
• Attention to details, commitment to data integrity, and timely completion of tasks, including accurate report generation
