Avatar Medical, spin-off de l’Institut Curie, obtient le marquage CE pour sa solution innovante d’imagerie médicale

Avatar Medical, a company born from research conducted at Institut Curie and Institut Pasteur, has reached a decisive milestone by obtaining CE marking for "Avatar Medical Vision," its virtual reality solution that facilitates surgical planning and interventions. This certification will allow the company to market its solution in Europe for the benefit of patients. Following FDA approval in the United States, the Medtech continues its international expansion.

"Since its creation in 2020, AVATAR MEDICAL has achieved a remarkable journey. After obtaining FDA approval in the United States, this CE certification confirms that start-ups emerging from and supported by Institut Curie can transform academic research into concrete innovations, now accessible on the international market. This is a major advancement that will improve patient care for many. It is a great source of pride!"

Resulting from four years of research in human-data interaction and machine learning conducted at Institut Curie and Institut Pasteur, Avatar Medical has developed an innovative solution – "Avatar Medical Vision" – that enables real-time conversion of patients' medical images into 3D and XR renderings, thereby improving the visualization and understanding of these images.

After receiving FDA approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2023, the Medtech continues its international expansion with CE marking for its cutting-edge technology. In 2021, Institut Curie became the first hospital in the world to acquire this visualization solution. This new major step will allow Avatar Medical to market its virtual reality solution in Europe, democratizing access to medical imaging for European surgeons and patients.

Thanks to this certification, Avatar Medical Vision will be usable throughout the patient care pathway:

  • During consultations: Helping patients better understand their pathology and treatment plan.

  • During interdisciplinary meetings: Facilitating collaboration among practitioners.

  • For surgical planning: Optimizing the preparation of interventions.

  • During surgery: Providing valuable support to medical teams.

"CE marking is the culmination of transforming the research technology transferred from Institut Pasteur and Institut Curie into a solution that guarantees all the necessary safety and traceability requirements. European doctors and patients will finally be able to benefit from these advancements!"
